SURFS UP AT HIRIKETIYA

Highlighted by Conde Nast, this small horse-shoe bay with surf waves almost all the year round.Jungle meets golden sand alongside hip cafes, bars and surf shops all of which would not look out of place on many coastlines around the more travelled world.A great day out.

ELEPHANTS AT UDAWALAWE SANCTUARY

Covering about 30,000 hectares, the national park was set up as a wildlife preservation plan with the construction of the nearby reservoir.Most famous for its concentration of elephants, it boasts an array of other mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and amphibians – all within reach for a day trip.

4TH CENTURY CAVE TEMPLES

A short trip away, the Mulkirigala Caves boast a remarkable temple and monastery carved out of a large and sheer rock formation, constructed around 300 AD by King Saddhatissa. The serenity, architecture and intricate, ancient paintings are best enjoyed earlier and later in the day

BUNDALA BIRD SANCTUARY

Highlighted by Forbes as “one of the best safari destinations outside Africa”, Bundala is also a wetland of international importance to biodiversity. The park is home to over 200 species of both endemic and migratory birds in a beautiful untouched natural environment
